Pride in Gateshead
Real work on Gateshead’s roads
Over 4,000 potholes filled and £14.2 million invested in road maintenance last year.
The High Level Bridge – the Victorian crossing between Gateshead and Newcastle that people have relied on for generations – has had a £5.2 million strengthening project completed. And new electric buses are now running – quieter, cleaner and more reliable.
Local pitches getting what they need
Grassroots sport in Gateshead has received over £72,000 this year. Whickham Fellside Youth Football Club got £38,700 for pitch maintenance equipment at Dunston Park, and Moss Heaps Playing Fields received new goalposts – funded by the UK Government, Premier League and The Football Association’s charity the Football Foundation.

Helen is a trustee of Emma Hall in Crawcrook — a community centre that has received Pride in Place funding, a vital place for people of all ages to come together.
“The people are what make your community. People were donating money because they’d had their wedding reception here 60 years ago – that personal and social history just made me think, we’ve got to save it and preserve it for the future.”
Arts, culture and community — right across Gateshead
The brand new nine-mile Tyne Derwent Way for walking, cycling and running is free and open to everyone, backed by £1.6 million of UK government funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Four local libraries have been refreshed and reopened following a £1.1 million investment from the ‘Transforming Libraries into Community Places’ project.
And 9 family hubs are now open across Gateshead — in Birtley, Blaydon Winlaton, Chopwell, Chowdene, Deckham, Felling, Leam Lane, Teams and Wrekenton. Wherever you live, there’s somewhere nearby you can go for support.

Keeping South Tyneside’s roads in shape
6,380 potholes were filled across South Tyneside last year – steady investment in the roads residents rely on every day.
Sport and community spaces getting investment
£3000 in funding has been invested in grassroots facilities in 2024/25 to Clegwell Community Hub and Keelman’s Way School, funded by UK Government, Premier League and The Football Association’s charity the Football Foundation.

12 family hubs are now open across South Tyneside, making sure practical support for families is there when you need it, close to where you live.
3 new or expanded school-based nurseries are also open – giving more young children in the area the best possible start.
